For the first time since I arrived in California, I was able to sleep past 8:00. After dawdling a bit, we headed off to the Diamond Head farmer's market and air horns trumpeted to announce our arrival. Actually, I guess those air horns indicated the end of the farmer's market, because the second we arrived everyone started to close up shop. We were able to get a bag or two of fruits and veggies (plus some kalua pork for the road), then we headed up to the north shore.
After a beautiful hour long drive, we arrived at Ben's friend Ali's house, right on the beach. We chilled for a bit, then headed to the Opal Thai Food truck for some lunch: we hemmed and hawed about what to order, finally decided, and then the super-friendly owner brought whatever he wanted: sticky chicken wings with deep fried basil, drunken noodles, all delicious. The owners 8-year old son grilled us about Star Wars while we dined.
After more beach time in the afternoon, we cooked dinner and prepped for the party at Ben's other friends place: a huge three-bedroom down the beach from Ali's. The party consisted of about 15 Army men and and 30 Scandinavian women: always a good ratio for fun.
Big props to Ali, Pat, Eddie, and the Ginge for their hospitality on the North Shore.
