Best Pizza in NY?
The Siftmaster declared Motorino the best pizza in NY a couple of weeks ago, so I figured it was worth a trip. I walked four blocks in freezing rain from the Metropolitan Ave G stop and arrived around 1:00; it was mostly empty. The pizza I ordered--topped with tomato, fior di late, garlic and soppressata--had a puffy crust and a nicely acidic tomato sauce, but was by no means the best pizza in New York. I try to abstain from superlatives as much as possible, but without a doubt the pizza at Co. and Lucali are better. That said, Lucali, with its 2 hour waits, extraordinarily overpriced pies and Jay-Z and Beyonce sitings, can go get fucked. The nothing-short-of-excellent pie I had at Motorino was part of an $11 lunch special that came with a perfectly nice bowl of squash soup: not bad, right?
