So then: Prague

A beautiful first day in Prague: cold but clear, and not so cold that I was uncomfortable walking around. It's my first time here and the city certainly makes a great first impression: quiet cobblestoned streets, beautiful old buildings and churches, and a long, wide river running through the middle of everything. On Amanda's advice I took the metro into the old city center and saw the main touristy highlights first: the Old Town Hall with the clock thingy. That one church. Next I walked over to see Gehry's dancing house, which was pretty cool, and then crossed over the river and had some lunch. I took the funicular up to the top of a nearby park/hill, then hit a nearby Czech Modern Art museum. At that point the work day was over so I met Amanda and some of her Embassy colleagues for a beer, and then we grabbed some dinner at the oldest pub in Prague. An excellent introduction to the city.

  1. if you have time, it was fun taking trips out to vysehrad and karlstejn. i think both can be done in an afternoon, and both are within an hour of the city if i'm remembering correctly.
